Team Kaitiaki

‘Kaitiaki’ is a Māori word, referring to guardians.  Our Leadership team at the school is made up of the Team Lead Teachers, staff with Curriculum Leader responsibilities, and staff with Student Leadership responsibilities.  These teams are coordinated by our three senior leaders.

Principal: Mike Farrelly

Mike has been school principal at RBS since 2007.  Previous to that he was principal at Pauatahanui School and Deputy Principal at Adventure Primary School.  He graduated from Wellington College of Education and has taught at variety of schools in both the public and private sector. Mike is especially in brain-based learning and how recent finding in neurology impact on students. He was fortunate enough to attend a ‘Summer School’ at the University of Santa Barbara which focussed on Neuro-science and learning.
Mike is an avid snow-skiier and has enjoyed skiing in both the States and Canada.  An initiation into heli-skiing was a somewhat ‘humbling experience’. Contact Mike

Deputy Principal (Student Achievement): Julie Morris

I started at RBS 6 1/2 years ago, after spending 3 years at the Ministry of Education as a senior advisor in curriculum, teaching and learning. Prior to my time at the Ministry I was a classroom teacher for nearly 20 years, holding a number of roles including syndicate leader, curriculum expert and acting principal. Over my many years of teaching, I have had the pleasure and the privilege of working in a variety of schools from small rural schools in NZ with 3 teachers and 70 students to large, inner city, multicultural schools in central London -quite a contrast I can assure you! I have taught all year levels from year 1 through to year 8 and for me each level brings new challenges, new learnings and new aspects to treasure.

I graduated from Wellington College of Education with a Diploma of Teaching and recently completed my Master of Education. I am truly a lifelong learner and probably a bit of a nerd!

I live in Wellington with my husband and our elderly dog- who in human years has just turned 105! In my spare time I like to read, eat out, listen to music, cook, take long walks, and spend time with my family and friends.  I love travelling abroad and have lived in both Australia and the UK. I love my role here at RBS -the students, the staff and the community are awesome.

Assistant Principal: Kate Hudson-Gill

I graduated from the University of Otago in 2009, with a Bachelor of Teaching (Primary). We then moved to the beautiful Kapiti coast, where I have been teaching at Raumati Beach School in various year levels, in between maternity and parental leave. I enjoy all year levels, it has given me a good understanding of the students learning journeys, as they progress though the school.
I am passionate about making learning fun and meaningful for the students. I aim to provide an engaging and motivating environment in which students can develop key life skills alongside Literacy and Numeracy. I believe that relationships with students and parents are the key to creating an environment in which students well-being and learning can develop.
In my spare time I enjoy the outdoors with my family, especially the beach, parks and cricket grounds. I also enjoy baking delicious treats for my friends and reading books. Contact Kate
